Ski Birdie Is Back!
Well, the Bird Family Ski Adventure is now complete, and it was good cold fun. Not too cold, mind you - we saw not a flake of fresh falling snow (except in the car on the way back to the airport). But Colorado had so much snow in January and February that there was still plenty left for us to ski on, and ski we did! Father Bird and I had one day of skiing together, then two more days of skiing with boys. At one point we tried to include babiest bird, but it took, oh, 30 seconds to realize she was not ready and needed to be back in ski school. BUT, by the last run of the last day of the trip, babiest bird was cruising down greens with the rest of us.
Here is the photographic evidence that Mamabird does, indeed, ski:

Hey, there, SkiBird--
Where did you ski in Coloroad? Did you know that is where I grew up? I didn't ski until we moved to WA though. Sick. Well, I did cross-country. I used to live in Steamboat...and may again.
I skied yesterday for the first time in a while. I took a lesson with my son's instructor who is *wonderful*. Do you know, I was skiing parallel in two runs? My son and his teacher took me on for awhile and then went to the moguls and the half-pipe. I used my new technique which is about half the work of the old one and smiled all day. I want to go back up this morning!

Hey, Patty! First Legoland, now Steamboat! You are psychic. Yes, indeedy, that is where we went. We had never been before... we generally go skiing every other year, and we like to go somewhere new each time. Steamboat was highly recommended... and now I see why!
We loved SS. Great skiing... extremely friendly people. Not once the whole trip did I have some slacker-looking twenty-something look at me like I was an old banana peel and say the word, "Whatever." Plus the town is just so cool. Easy to navigate. Cheap groceries. Good restaurants. Kid-friendly.
We went tubing down one of the ski hills one night - GREAT fun. DH thought it was too pricey until we actually did it - then he was a believer too.
Congrats on your parallel progress! Don't you think the shaped skis are da BOMB? Makes turning SO much easier.
Maybe one day we can meet in person and see if we are actually twins separated at birth! (grin)

I love the pictures! You have a beautiful family! My husband loves all "danger sports". I am the worry-wart wife who tries to have a good time while secretly stressing over disability insurance! Fun, huh?

Hey, Mamabird--I just have to tell you that I keep checking back in just to read the words "Steamboat Springs" again and again. I'm so enthusiastic about skiing since that lesson I took...and it would be nice to try out some really long runs. Our local ski area is, well, local (think 7-11)--not a lot of selection, small sizes, but hey, it's close. That's not nothing--we go every week. And this year, the snow is great. Last year, we had *no snow*. The year before that, we had a lot of snow--for 2 weeks--and then it rained *all the time* -- so much so that the ski instructor always had a garbage bag ready with neck and arm holes ready to put on the kid so they could ski for 2 hours. I have to say I really admired my kid's perseverence here! This year, the snow is gorgeous. But the runs are still *short*. I love that 5-mile green at Steamboat!
